Grasmere Lake District - Travel England
In the northwest corner of England is the fabled Lake District. Its fells (mountains), tarns (lakes), and valleys have been written about and painted by any number of artists. Its rugged landscapes are the highest and wettest of England. In 1951 most of the 885 square miles located in Cumbria County was incorporated into the Lake District National Park. Beatrix Potter's books and efforts to preserve the area have helped the growth of tourism into the major industry along side agriculture and other small rural businesses.
